One rainy day, I got up early to do my usual activity. Take a bath, eat my breakfast, fix my things and go to school. I only have 2 subjects in the morning and later that afternoon, I would be free. While I was waiting for the jeep to be filled up, a woman on her late 40’s came by with a roll of tissue paper on her left hand and a dark blue umbrella on her right. She actually reminded me of my super strict teacher way back in grade school. She had the why-don’t-you-move-over-I-am-a-tiger-and-I’m-going-to-eat-you aura that made everybody moved forward leaving her a space on the seat that is usually occupied first in jeepneys. You know what I mean. But when she’s about to invade the sanctuary we were in, the roll of tissue got out of hand, fell on to the ground and was sunken into the water. Like a sweet potato smashed on to the floor. That created murmurings from the mouth of the old lady.
I arrived early at school so I went up chatting with my classmates. We were busy talking about everything that we didn’t realize it was already 8:40. Our next class would be 11 o’clock so we still have to wait. Came 11:15 and we were told that we won’t have our class on that subject. In short, my day went up to be like that of the tissue paper… wasted…
Imagine how tissue papers handle it? They appear to be important to people yet they receive greater rejections. It’s like they’re ready to give up their dignity in order to serve humanity. They are the “wiper” of everything but people tend to take it for granted. Although, it’s not like when you blow your nose with a tissue paper, you’re going to keep it in order to show your gratitude towards them. It’s just that they are not given any appreciation for their divine purpose. Think about it, they had never been subjects for discussions. They had never been anything but tissue papers in the lives of the people. Ever heard of a group of people talking about tissue papers? Even stupid ones don’t. When the woman dropped the tissue paper and got mad at it, who’s to be blamed? But a tissue paper can’t do anything. They don’t have a choice. Can they object? Of course, not. I actually pity them for the connotation that had been attached on to their names besides all the services they give to humankind. It’s actually nerve-wracking on the side of tissue papers. Unlike other things, we often neglect them just because there are plenty of them and we could afford to get another one when the other one is wasted.
